Paper Assembly House

Paper Assembly House is a thoughtfully curated shop in Radford, Virginia centered around creativity, community, and the small objects that make everyday life feel a little more meaningful.

Founded by artist, designer, and community organizer Sara Thompto, the shop was created from a lifelong love of paper goods, independent artists, bookstores, and the joy of discovering something special tucked onto a shelf. There truly isn’t a stationery store Sara can pass without stopping in. Every trip, every new city, every small downtown inevitably turns into a search for the local paper shop, bookstore, or creative space filled with objects made by people who care deeply about what they create.

That feeling is what inspired Paper Assembly House.

Our mission is to bring more creativity, color, connection, and independent art to the New River Valley while creating a welcoming space for readers, artists, students, gift-givers, and curious people alike. We believe small businesses help shape the personality of a community, and we believe thoughtful objects can genuinely brighten someone’s day.

At Paper Assembly House, you’ll find stationery, books, gifts, art supplies, home goods, self-care items, and products created by independent artists and small brands from across the country, alongside work from local and regional artists and designers we’re proud to support.

We believe in supporting artists not just because creativity matters, but because artists help communities feel alive. We believe in handwritten notes, carefully chosen gifts, afternoons spent browsing bookstores, and the importance of spaces where people feel inspired simply by walking through the door.

More than anything, we hope Paper Assembly House becomes a place people return to often, to find a gift, discover a new favorite artist, feel creatively recharged, or simply slow down for a little while.
